Sohail and STARS Advocate for Inclusive STEM Education in Learning and Support Centres managed by dedicated volunteers and NGOs.
Sohail, founder of STARS, is on a mission to revolutionise education system in Mauritius by championing a transformative campaign focused on integrating STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and Robotics into the programmes of Learning and Support Centres managed by dedicated volunteers and NGOs.
He has three participations in the FIRST Global Robotics Challenge, served as Captain of the FIRST Global Mauritius Team in 2024, has earned accolades as Judge Awards winner and conducted fundraise to support the Mauritius Team participation.
At the core of Sohail’s philosophy is the belief that education is a powerful unifying force capable of creating a lasting impact. He passionately advocates for diversity, equality, and inclusivity.
Sohail’s campaign is driven by the conviction that every child deserves access to quality and well diversified education.
Both the formal and less formal education curriculum in Mauritius has minimal STEM and robotics related content.
The introduction of STEM and robotics into the programme is transforming opportunities for students, significantly enhancing their creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
This innovative approach is seeding for future leaders in technology and engineering, irrespective of social and economic background.
Acknowledging both the barriers and limited resources faced by many volunteered Learning and Support Centres, he is on a mission to break the barriers and advocate for the integration of robotics and STEM into their curriculum.
Creating a pool of experts
Sohail is diligently establishing a pool of expertise who will empower Learning and Support Centres by designing tailored programmes for various group, training staff and facilitating the delivery of these STEM and Robotics programmes.
By gathering industry professionals, educators and passionate STEM advocates, STARS aims to provide mentorship and guidance that empowers students on their educational journeys. This collaborative network will play a pivotal role in facilitating engaging workshops and hands-on activities, making STEM education a vibrant and accessible experience for all.
A group of university students, universities’ lecturers and industry professionals specialising in robotics, engineering and STEM related has already committed into this cause.
Fostering Collaborative Partnerships
At the heart of Sohail’s campaign lies also the aspiration to build meaningful collaboration between Learning and Support Centres and the industry partners.
By engaging businesses and industry leaders, STARS seeks to secure the vital resources and support needed to enrich the educational experience for students. These partnerships will provide partially the financial resources required, serve as a bridge, connecting students from diverse backgrounds with professionals who can inspire and mentor them, fostering a spirit of inclusivity and community.
Engaging Workshops with a Purpose
To amplify the impact of this initiative, STARS is planning a series of immersive workshops focused on robotics, electronics, artificial intelligence, programming, and sensor technologies.
These workshops will not only ignite creativity and innovation among students but will also emphasize the importance of sustainability and climate change. By intertwining these themes with STEM education, Sohail’s initiative seeks to inspire the next generation of problem solvers who are equipped to tackle the pressing challenges of our time.
Join the Movement for Change
Sohail invites volunteers, industry experts, academic institutions, organizations, and corporations to join him in this transformative campaign, advocating for inclusive STEM education that uplifts students in Mauritius.
Your support can create a profound impact – whether through partnerships, funding, or sharing expertise. Together, we can cultivate a future where education serves as a powerful tool for unity, diversity, and equality.
